Prompt: Make.

Prompt: Make. What was the last thing you made? What materials did you use? Is there something you want to make, but you need to clear some time for it?

I feel like I make a lot of things. It is never a matter of lack of time for me, it's money. I would say that 9/10 times I prefer handmade to store bought. I like the process, I like the satisfaction of stretching those skills or learning something new. I like the way homemade things taste better (the first time I tried one of those Stouffer lasagna things I almost threw it out...blech!) and I appreciate them more- less of the "easy come, easy go" mentality.

I made granola this morning. I used almonds instead of pecans and omitted the cardamom and my house smells like cinnamon rolls. I love baking. I get excited to go to a knitting group or back in the book club days because it meant a chance to make something different. Something that I normally wouldn't make because it would mean I would eat far more than my share. I am big on baking and taking so others get to enjoy. I have found here that it is such a novelty. Most of the women I have met are coming from work and just stop at the store on the way. I find the accolades funny, most of the things I have taken aren't anything special, but I guess there really is something to be said about home baked goods!

This is at the laid out stage so I could figure out how I wanted to mix up the patterns.
It may not be a traditional quilt, but it was a fun and un-intimidating first one to do!
On Thanksgiving we threw tradition to the wind and made pizza and spent the day crafting and creating as a family, watching movies and staying in jammies. I pieced together my first quilt and can't wait to take it to UT with us in a couple weeks to get a refresher course from my mom on binding.

I am still knitting and have knitting going 3-4 days a week. I am trying to talk myself into taking it to the next level and doing something that requires me to learn a new stitch or follow a complicated pattern. I am guessing that will wait until the new year :)

So the question for me isn't what don't I take time for that I want to... I would love to piece together a larger quilt, but need to budget that in first. Same goes for knitting- nice yarn adds up fast! I plan to do a lot more baking and candy making before the holiday season is over. Like everything, when there is a plan to make it happen, it just takes the patience and follow through. Two things I am getting better and better at.

Your lap quilt looks so cute! You remember when I made two of those in Utah last summer? I just made another one for my grandpa for Christmas out of my grandma's old clothes. It's a satisfying and quick(ish) project! Scour your thrift stores for fabric and vintage sheets to quilt with. I am making a new quilt for our bed (soon) and it will largely be vintage sheets with some modern punches of fabric thrown in.

I do remember!!! I got the book last year for my b-day and have wanted to take the time to make it since. I am IN LOVE with the idea for your grandpa. I can't wait to see pictures!

And yes...I just left you a message. I am an space cadet sometimes!

Looks yummy! But the cake sounds good too:)

I made a quilt once. What I wish is that when I learned how to make something, that I remembered how to do it. Already, I've forgotten how to cast off on a knitting project. Frustrating. Your quilt looks really cute!

i feel the same. it's not finding the time more finding the $ for all the projects i want to do. it all adds up, but i definitely don't want that to stop me.

You should make a sweater for one of your girls. once you have the basics stitches down, like you do, then nothing is too complicated.

love the quilt. Oh and I just made granola today. i'll share when you come. :)
