Geek Flag

There has been a lot of gaming going on lately. I joined up with this group of women gamers and it has been surprisingly fun. The organizer of the group, Amanda, lives really close and has hosted a couple half day pot-luck type gaming get togethers. We have had her and her husband over a few times too- it's so nice to have a couple to play nerdy strategy games with who live close and don't have kids so it isn't a big deal to come to us. Fun games that aren't just the "Hasboro family"type games. (Which have their place!)

I feel lucky that strategy games were something Linc got me into and a hobby we still make time for and share. Sometimes its so easy to just zone out in from of the TV or pop in a movie (oh how we love the streaming Netflix!) and check out for the night. I love that after 10 years of marriage we still get all nerdy excited about something that we enjoyed when we dated. That new expansions and getting the complete set to a game make us feel like kids again.

I've learned quite a few new games through this group and it feels awesome to let my inner geek out with other women who get it. For the most part the women have been down to earth and unpretentious. A few have rubbed me wrong, personality wise, but I think that's good (and par for the course with this type of group). Sometimes you need the ones that bristle you so you appreciate the ones that don't, right? More than anything it feels good to be a part of something new here.

Let that geek flag fly, sista! Let it fly! I've never had the patience for strategy games, but it is fun to see how much you and Linc get into them. It is nice to have hobbies you can do together!
